On September 24, The Long Hill Garden Club 'entertainment and learning portion', titled "Ready, Set, Design", was organized by member Patti Pitts, in order to teach the membership that floral design can be done by all-you just have to do it!! And follow a few rules. Four members, Dagny Hassinger, Ruth Mohr, Cathy Ritch and Barbara Treadwell, were given the same container and the same number of flowers and were asked to design an arrangement which Terry Stoleson and Evelyn Shapiro, our National Floral Design Judges, evaluated. They gave valuable pointers for each design.
Terry and Evelyn, first spoke about the elements of design and the principles of design and then when the designs were completed they showed by example what all those elements and principles meant. Everyone learned from the experience and many of the club members, who had little interest in floral design, left feeling that they wanted to try their hand at an arrangement. A very successful program.
