Herb Garden – 1996 to Present
The town of Trumbull celebrated its 200th anniversary in 1996. In conjunction with the anniversary, the original Town Hall building, located at the bottom of Church Hill Road, was restored. It is now named the Helen Plumb Building. The Long Hill Garden Club planted an herbal garden at that site which is appropriate to the time of the original building. We continue to maintain the garden which consists of four herbal areas – fragrance, medicinal, culinary and herbs used for dying. A sundial serves as the focal point of the garden, surrounded by lavender and a miniature boxwood hedge.
Work days at the garden consist of a group of members weeding, replanting and caring for the garden. It is an established garden and just requires maintenance. Generally we gather to do the work and then share a pot luck soup luncheon and fellowship. Smaller groups or pairs of women will visit the garden more frequently to make sure that it is in good condition and water, it if it is needed.
